A little sprain
Well, I abandoned the family for 5 days last week to make my annual pilgrimage to San Diego for the San Diego Comic Con. It is the 5 days of pure geek heaven. I do this every year, I help my friend Bill Stout set up his booth and get to hang out and meet all the professionals of a fan boys dreams.
But that’s not what I’m writing about – while I was gone, Devin had a little accident. It seems he fell off the playground set on Saturday and did a little damage to his arm. After 7 hours of Liana sitting in the emergency room nothing could be found break wise – but because he was screaming in such pain the doctor was afraid there was something else going on. (The doctor, by the way, was the same one we had two times earlier when Devin had the nursemaid’s elbow thing – I hope we don’t go on a list somewhere.) Devin is so much better when I’m there – he is such a Daddy’s boy that I can talk him out of his hysteria and let the nurses do their thing of taking his temperature and weight, etc.
I got home on Sunday night and Devin woke up with some discomfort – when I came in to assure him that I was back and here for him – he told me to go work on the computer. When we asked him if he hurt he said the “owie went to Yerevan.” (To explain: Devin was told that his Grandfather went to Yerevan, Armenia, when we took him to the airport a few months back – since he hasn’t seen his Grandfather in a few months, it seems he equates “going to Yerevan” with going away, never to come back. So, when he is mad at us he tells us to go to Yerevan.)
"Can you say ouch!!"
Concerned we went to his regular doctor because his elbow was a little swollen, she took off the brace and told us if it get any worse to call. As of today it is still a little swollen but it seems to be okay. He can’t extend it all the way but we were told that it is nothing to be concerned about.
